AutomotEV (“AEV”), is a rapidly growing car manufacturing company that designs and markets electric cars, zero-emission vehicles, and electrification technologies. AEV has just over 100 employees and is headquartered in San Diego, California. San Diego is the ideal location as it is a “well-known as a secondary hub for the technology sector due to a strong talent pool, local access to world-class products, access to defense contracts, a great climate, and more affordable housing than the Silicon Valley” (San Diego.com, 2021).

Based on our research, most large US automakers are unionized. However, we recommend against supporting unionized employees for now (e.g. at least until large scale manufacturing ramps up) as this often “discourages individuality, makes it harder to promote and terminate workers, and drives up costs” (Stevenson, 2018). Therefore, it is no surprise that the electric vehicle industry attracts a huge number of investors and the competition is immense, so startups such as AEV can only become successful when they have something cool and innovative to present. Therefore, in order to stand-out from the pack, top-tier talent is needed along with a stellar compensation and benefits plan to attract them. This paper will outline our recommendations to accomplish the investment groups goals of maximizing intermediate and long term profits via strategies to recruit talent, retain key employees, and be competitive in the market.
