DISCLAIMER: I have not seen the final exam nor received any information about its specific contents. Therefore, these problems are not necessarily similar to the final exam problems, especially because they have been prepared by me, not by Prof. Kim (who creates the final exam). Additionally, due to time constraints this collection of problems does not exhaust the course material, so please make sure you check the textbook questions for topics that this document doesn’t cover. I have written this to be roughly equal to or slightly harder than the difficulty of the homework sets. I hope you will find these questions useful. physical物理代考
The problems and solutions were written rather quickly due to time constraints, so the possibility of mistakes in questions or solutions is a bit higher than usual. Please post on Piazza (preferred, so that other students can discuss too) or email Daniel Schultz if you think you found a mistake.
I recommend that you quote results from the main text in Griffiths, but that you rederive results from Grif- fiths examples for practice. This will help familiarize you further with common problems in electromagnetic theory.
Good luck and happy studying!
1.Laplace’sequation in magnetostatics: physical物理代考
A cylinder is made of a linear magnetic material with magnetic susceptibility χm and radius R, whose central axis is the z It is placed in an otherwise uniform magnetic field B = B0xˆ. Find the magnetic field everywhere.
2.Methodof images for magnetic field : Consider a wire carrying current I along the line (a, 0, z) in the+zˆ direction (where a > 0), and suppose that the region x < 0 is filled with a linear magnetic material of permeability µ. Calculate the magnetic field everywhere.
- Stress tensor in magnetostatics: A circular loop of wire, parallel to the xy plane, has radius a. It carries a current I counterclockwise (when looking at the loop from above), and its centre is at (0, 0, d), whered > 0, and d a. The region z < 0 is filled with a linear magnetic material of permeability µ = µ0(1 + χm). Calculate the force on the loop of wire by using the Maxwell stress tensor. physical物理代考
- Fieldmomentum: Consider a spherical shell of radius R, charged with uniform surface density σ, which is spinning with constant angular velocity ω = ωzˆ. Calculate the momentum and angular momentum carried by the electromagnetic filed.
