Question 1
(1) Find the yield for a die that is 1.4cm on a side, assuming that a die is square and “the defects per area” of 0.40 per cm2. (0.5 pt.)
(2) Suppose that a die is enlarged from 1.4cm on a side to 1.7cm on a side. (A die is square). Find the yield for this new die. (0.5 pt.)
(3) The yield derived in (2) is unacceptable since it leads to much higher costs. What much should “defects per area” be improved for a die with 1.7cm on a side to keep the yield as good as that in (1) ?. Answer the value of the “defects per area”. (0.5 pt.)
(4) Suppose that the die area (1.7cm on a side) and the “defects per area” are ones derived in (3), that “wafer diameter” is 20.0cm, and that “cost per wafer” is 10,000yen. Calculate the “cost per die” by using the following formulas. (The units for diameter and area are “cm” and “cm2”, respectively.) (1pt.)
