You are required to submit TWO film responses over the course of the semester. In this assignment, you will be using your sociological imagination to critically analyze a film and place its major and minor themes, its storyline, or its characters in conversation with three concepts you have learned from the course material. This means:
Show me how the film, its themes, its scenes, its storyline or characters exhibit, highlight, or engage with three concepts you have learned from class (e.g. colorblind racism, intersectionality, racial justice, etc.)
Think critically about the film, its themes and its purpose. Some questions you might consider asking and answering are: Why was the film created? Who created it, and why is noting this important? What is its message? What purpose does it serve? What impact does it have on those of us watching the film? How does this film frame or encourage a critical conversation around issues of race, racism, ethnicity, and identity? How is this film relevant in today’s contexts of race and racism?
Please note: You are not required to write a summary or synopsis of the film. Focus solely on applying your chosen concepts to understand and analyze the film material.

For this paper, first decide what you think is/are the main point(s) (i.e. frame of analysis) you want to make about the film; this is your paper’s thesis. Then choose three concepts from class to discuss what you feel are the important themes or scenes of the film that support the thesis of the paper. Each paper should be 4-6 pages long. For the purposes of clarity and flow, consider writing your paper in this format:
Introduction:
Introduce your thesis statement(s)/frame(s) of analysis.
Introduce your reader to how you have organized the paper: i.e. succinctly outline each concept you will be discussing.
Subheading One:
Apply and discuss the first concept in relation to the film, by using a specific example/scene or two from the film to highlight how the concept can be applied.
Sub-Heading Two:
Apply and discuss the second concept in relation to the film, by using a specific example/scene or two from the film to highlight how the concept can be applied.
Sub-Heading Three:
Apply and discuss the third concept in relation to the film, by using a specific example/scene or two from the film to highlight how the concept can be applied
