Psychology 308 Term Paper Assignment (Unit 3): Making the World a Better Place

心理学Paper代写 This assignment provides you with an opportunity to apply social psychological insights in a way that solves problems, improves people’s lives

Due   Friday by 11:59pm Points 100

Available Nov 12 at 12am – Dec 4 at 11:59pm 23 days

This assignment provides you with an opportunity to apply social psychological insights in a way that solves problems, improves people’s lives, and/or makes the world a better place to live (learning objective #3). Your paper should describe how a specific piece of social psychological knowledge—that was covered during Unit 3—might be applied in the design of a specific strategy to solve a specific real-world problem. 心理学Paper代写

In addition, your paper should propose and discuss a research methodology that could be used to test the effectiveness of that proposed strategy. Feel free to draw upon one of your Unit 3 Reading Reflections, if you wish. Because this assignment is primarily an opportunity for you to show off your understanding and intellectual engagement with course material covered in Unit 3, you do not need to draw on outside sources. We encourage you to tackle a real-world problem that you already know about and care about.

There should be five sections in your paper: 心理学Paper代写

1.Introduction to the specific problem:

Introduce the real-world problem that you’re trying to solve. The problem you tackle should be quite specific. (For example: racism is a huge real-world problem, but it’s such a big, amorphous, multi-faceted problem that it cannot easily be addressed by a single intervention strategy. A useful anti-racism intervention strategy would need to focuson a specific manifestation of racism—such as racial disparities in traffic stops by a Police Department in a specific location.) When describing the problem, make sure to provide enough information so that readers who aren’t familiar with the problem will understand it. (If you have first-hand experience with this problem, your own experience may be sufficient; you are permitted to refer to outside sources—such as newspaper articles—if needed.) 2.Research in social psychology:

Provide a brief scholarly overview of the relevant social psychological theory or research findings that you are going to apply to help solve that problem. You must cite at least one Unit 3 reading. You do not need to do outside research or draw upon any sources outside of course material. Instead, focus on what you’ve learned in this course, and focus especially on material from Unit 3. (Make sure to cite your sources appropriately.) The information you discuss in this section should provide the scholarly context for your proposed intervention strategy. 3.Intervention strategy.

In this section, you should propose an intervention strategy—informedby that social psychological insights you’ve just described—that is designed to tackle the specific problem you identified. There are many different forms that an intervention strategy might take (e.g., an advertising campaign, an app, a piece of legislation, or something else). Regardless of what strategy you describe, it must be your own creation (not merely a description of an existing strategy that you learned about in this course or elsewhere).

When describing this strategy, be specific! (For example, if you’re designing an app: What exactly would the app do, in what contexts, and for whom?) The strategy should be something that could be feasibly implemented in the real world, given a reasonable amount of resources. Be sure to describe clearly how the design of this intervention strategy is based on the social psychological insights you discussed above. Draw specific, explicit connections between these insights and the strategy you’ve designed. [Between half a page and one page]心理学Paper代写

4.Methodology to test the effectiveness of the strategy:

Once you have described the intervention strategy, you should briefly sketch out the methods of a study that could be conducted to test the effectiveness of that strategy. Ideally, this study should use an experimental design, with participants randomly assigned to conditions. But, depending on the problem and/or the intervention strategy, there may be logistical or ethical reasons why it might be impossible to use an experimental design. If so, briefly explain these reasons and propose an alternate study design (e.g., a longitudinal design).

Think carefully about any specific outcomes that should be measured: What specific change in attitudes or behavior would you need to detect in order to judge whether the strategy is actually effective? How will you measure this outcome? Also, be sure to specify the population you would use, and how many participants you would include in your sample, as well as any other methodological elements you think are especially important. You don’t have room to go into great detail here, of course, but a carefully-crafted summary is likely to be more impressive than a vague description; so strive to be as specific as you can within the limited space available. (If the proposed study uses manipulations or measures that were employed in prior research, make sure to provide proper citations to that prior research.) 5.Expected results:

You should explain exactly what you expect to find if the proposed intervention strategy is effective. In describing these expected results, you should include some brief discussion about what the expected results would mean; that is, how would these results provide evidence for the effectiveness of the proposed strategy? Suppose the results of the study suggest that the strategy did not work: What might that mean, and what might be a sensible next step? [Approximately half a page.]

General Guidelines 心理学Paper代写

Please follow guidelines below in formatting and editing your paper:

Papers are due at 11:59 pm (Vancouver time) on Friday December 4. Papers turned in after this time will be penalized 5% for each day late.心理学Paper代写

Please follow the guidelines below in formatting and editing your paper:

  1. Within the title of your paper, identify the specific course module that is most relevant to the paper (i.e., the module within which the theory / finding was presented). For example: “Bystander Intervention: How a New Mapping App Could Reduce the BystanderEffect.”
  2. Your paper should be a minimum of 2 pages and a maximum of 3 pages of text (not including title page and reference list); TA’s will stop reading after 3 pages of text. Papers must be double-spaced, 12 point Times New Roman, with 1-inch margins.

3.Every psychological concept, theory or experiment you mention should be backed up by a citation (to a course reading, video, or other published article). Every source you cite in the text of your paper should be included in your reference list in APA style.

4.We expect you to use this paper to demonstrate your own insights, but we are aware that sometimes outside sources (e.g., something you read on your own, or for another course, or whatever) might contrib

5.ute to your creative insights. If any of your insights are attributable to some outside source, make sure to cite that source in your You should also provide a footnote briefly explaining how this source contributed to your thinking.心理学Paper代写

6.Grammar, organization, spelling, and general writing style will affect your grade.

7.In general, you should write this paper as if your audience were an educated layperson. Assume that the reader has no specialized knowledge ofsocial psychology. You might want to have a non-psychologist friend proofread your paper – if he or she understands it, you are writing at the appropriate level.

Submit your paper on turnitin.com (http://www.turnitin.com) . Here’s how to do so:

  1. Log in to your turnitin.com account (Create an account if you don’t already have one.)
  2. On your “student” homepage, click on the “Enroll in a Class” button to enroll in this course.
  3. To enroll, enter the Class ID and Enrollment Key that correspond specifically to your section of this course:

Section 002 (Dunn): Class ID = 26322015; Enrollment key = PSYC308-002

Section 101 (Schaller): Class ID = 26474639; Enrollment key = PSYC308-101

Section 102 (Schaller): Class ID = 26474701; Enrollment key = PSYC308-102

  1. After you’ve enrolled, navigate to the class homepage and click on “Term Paper 3″ and proceed to submit your term paper

Collaboration Option 心理学Paper代写

You can choose to write this paper on your own or in collaboration with any or all members of your Learning Community. If you choose to write the paper collaboratively, one person should submit the paper and you should list the names of all people who contributed. Regardless of which person submits a collaborative term paper, every student should keep a copy of the final version of their paper, just in case! (If you collaborate with other students, you’ll be asked to complete a one-minute survey after turning in the paper. You will be asked: “Did everyone in your group do their fair share of work? Yes or no.” If the answer is no, you’ll be asked to briefly describe what went wrong. Students who do not contribute their fair share will not receive full credit for their group’s paper.)心理学Paper代写

Marking

This term paper assignment is your opportunity to demonstrate your understanding and intellectual engagement with course material. In other words: It’s your opportunity to “show off”—to show off the extent to which you have attended to, understood, and thought deeply about the material presented in this course. The mark on your term paper will be most strongly influenced by an appraisal of the extent to which it demonstrates thoughtful comprehension of social psychological research.心理学Paper代写

Term papers will be marked on a percentage scale (0 – 100) corresponding to the UBC grading scale, with the expectation that the distribution of marks will be consistent with the Department of Psychology’s policy on overall grade distributions (see refer to the course syllabus for information about this policy).

For additional details about exactly how Term Papers will be marked, make sure to look closely at the detailed rubric that will be used when the papers are actually marked:
