MSTM5020 Multicultural MathSpaces

Documenting Mathematical Spaces in Multicultural Contexts Essay and Presentation

多元文化数学空间代写 Students will explore historical or contemporary spaces for mathematics learning, socialization, and identity development.

Students will explore historical (through archival research) or contemporary spaces for mathematics learning, socialization, and identity development. For each student’s chosen “space” they will provide a high quality photograph and rich description of the space, the mathematics learning that is taking place there (or has taken place there), conjecture or document how people see or define themselves as mathematics doers in the space, and provide some suggestions for how such spaces might be useful to mathematics teaching and learning in school.

The Multicultural MathSpaces assignment includes two parts  多元文化数学空间代写

  • Written paper: due November 10th, should include the photograph and be 3-5 pages double-spaced. Please submit the assignment to Dr. Flint via email at crf51@tc.columbia.edu.
  • Virtual Presentation: Students should prepare a short virtual presentation regarding their chosen space due on November 15th, which will be showcased at the Virtual Multicultural MathSpaces Gallery Walk-Through event. The video pre-recorded presentation should include the Multicultural MathSpace photo and the presenters. Do not include a PowerPoint in the presentation. The video recording should be approximately 5 minutes.

Students are encouraged to work in pairs. The Multicultural MathSpaces project will contribute to 20% of your course grade. There are three criterion you will be evaluated for: a) Originality: How creative is the chosen MathSpace for multicultural mathematics learning? b) Efficacy: How effective can the chosen MathSpace be for multicultural mathematics learning? c) Implementability: How practical is it for the chosen MathSpace to be implemented for multicultural mathematics learning?

Each category is graded on a Likert scale;

5 – Exemplary, 4 – Very Good, 3 — Good, 2 – Fair, 1 – Poor
