In the first lab of this course, you analyzed the relationship between a country’s stage of economic development and its infant mortality rate using histograms. In your analysis you discussed various country characteristics that might account for the differences in infant death rates that you observed in your histograms. 回归分析作业代写

For this problem set, you are going to specify a multiple regression model that explains infant mortality rates, and then analyze your results.  The last page of the lab printout gives the variable definitions.

STEP 1: Log on to Moodle and download the data set Country Statistics. 回归分析作业代写

STEP 2: Your dependent variable will be infantdeath.  You should choose THREE explanatory variables from the list at the end of the lab assignment.  Type describe to get a list of the variable names.  Note: Do not use the variable dev at this stage yet because it is a dummy variable with three values.

Question 1 – Write down the regression equation that you’ve decided to estimate and justify why you think that the explanatory variables that you choose might affect infant mortality.

STEP 3: Regress infantdeath on the explanatory variables that you have chosen.  Use the syntax regress infantdeath X1 X2 X3 where X1, X2 and X3 are the names of the explanatory variables that you have chosen.

Question 2 – Report your results: the coefficient estimates, their standard errors, and the R2回归分析作业代写

Question 3 – Precisely interpret the meaning of each of your coefficients, referring to the meaning and units of each variable.  

Question 4 – Identify which of your coefficients are statistically significant.  Justify your answers.

Question 5 – Do any of your coefficient estimates surprise you – either in terms of their sign, magnitude or statistical significance (or lack thereof)?  Explain.  (Note: Remember if a coefficient is not significant, then the sign and magnitude of that coefficient are not very informative, because there is the possibility of substantial sampling error.)
