This explains the mission control interface of most microwaves. As a result, the bar for user experience has been rising quickly and users have high expectations. A usability test is a critical process in product development for the success of electronic appliances.

Purpose of the Project
This usability project aims to examine how people use and experience microwave. It will evaluate the interaction with a common model of a microwave. The discreet interaction of buttons was observed next to a model using wheels for continuous interaction. The microwave will be evaluated with 3 participants in a controlled environment in my home kitchen. The three participants will be selected randomly in my neibourhood. Both males and females will have equal chances of being selected. The usability tests of the microwave were recorded by both audio and video to generate qualitative and quantitative data. The participants were interviewed before, during, and after the tasks about their experiences to get qualitative data about the usability of the microwave.

The participants were expected to perform the following three tasks:
1.Set up the microwave and cook anything for 3 minutes and 30 seconds. This was found to be the most common activity with microwave at homes and hence made it an essential usability case of the microwave.
2. Pause the microwave process in progress. This is a common practice when heating, especially when the user feels the need to end the process early or to add time. It was challenging and took sometimes for the researcher to figure out how to pause the heating process without canceling the process.
3. Set up power level to P-50. The common ready to eat meals that require microwave heating requires specific heat level to be completely cooked.

Therefore, the three types of data required to measure the three tasks include:
1.Time taken for the task to complete
2. The number of steps taken for the task to complete
3. The difficulty level from 1 to 5 to complete the test.
Notably, the test had to create a comfortable environment for the participants so that they are not overly conscious of their decisions during the test. The researcher made the intention of the research clear and not a test of their ability to use the microwave.

The test will be performed in my home kitchen. The microwave will be placed in the kitchen table. The tasks will be performed in my presence as the moderator, and an observer. The instructions to the tasks will be read loudly to each participant as detailed in the instructions paper with each one of them. The participants will take the test each at a time to avoid learning effect.
When the tasks are complete, each participant will be expected to fill a standardized usability survey to evaluate their satisfaction. It will also be used to double-check the data collected during the tasks.

It is assumed that each participant can complete the tasks. It is also believed that the test will be gender independent. Therefore, the research can be carried out in any combination of possible gender ratio as follows: all males, all-female, two male one female, or two female one male.
